Vote for Blue Belle!

Petfinder recently notified us about a pet photo contest. The photo contest is being done by Bissell. The lucky winning pet's parents will select the cause of their choice to receive a $10,000 donation.

Jason and Tawnee have entered their dog, Genesee Blue Belle, in hope that Blue will win and NorCal Equine Rescue will get the $10,000 donation!  Blue is a registered, spayed Louisiana Catahoula Leopard.

We need your help to make this happen, Click Here to vote for Blue, the more votes the better. Please take a second and vote for Blue and help the horses all at the same time. Spread the word Click Here for Blue's Campaign page.

Please give Blue your vote!

On eBay!

Right next to our Post Office is a Salvation Army thrift store. Tawnee slipped inside last week to look for needed office supplies.  At the thrift store there was a circa 1935 Smith-Corona Sterling typewriter in perfect condition. No rust, no dust, just perfect. She wasn't sure if it was worth anything or not, but she went ahead and got it as it looked so neat and only cost $15. Tawnee did some research on it, and found out it's worth more than $15. More along the lines of $700. What a great fundraiser opportunity. Click here for some information about it. There's a rusty one on eBay for $2,000. Ours is much better!

We have listed it on eBay starting at $15.00, what we paid for it!
Click Here to see our add on eBay and feel free to place a bid.  Since the typewriter was posted it has had 7 bids and is currently at $76.00.

Also on eBay:
We
had to upgrade our Quickbooks so we are placing our old one on eBay.
It is Quickbooks Premier 2006 Nonprofit version. Click Here for the eBay auction. If you know of a nonprofit that needs financial software, this is a great opportunity to save some money and get a great program.

All of the funds will be used for the horses!

This Week's Review

This e-news covers the last week and a half.  Due to the euthanasia clinic last week we were unable to get an e-news sent out.
Last week started off rainy and wet, and yet through the miserable weather people came to visit the horses, and some lucky horses got to go to their forever homes.  The rain is certainly wonderful in the long term, although it can make it miserable and muddy.

We got a couple videos up on YouTube.  We hope you will enjoy them.  Feel free to leave us comments on Youtube.

Lippy Conner is a horse at the rescue that enjoys sharing his thoughts with the world.  He is quite a funny character and we just love spending time with him.

Click here to watch him share his opinions on needles and sedation.  Click here to see him discuss the recent weather.  When he gets in a stressful situation his voice seems to get high pitched and very rapid...

We have also published a video on Euthanasia.  It is not graphic and shows that humane euthanasia truly is a "peaceful death."  Click here for the euthanasia video.

This Week's Rescues

This rescue story starts Friday night at approximately 10:35 pm. NER founders Jason and Tawnee were almost asleep when the phone rang: "Hi it's your neighbor, I was driving home and I saw a loose horse on the paved part of Dunstone." Like a flash, Jason and Tawnee headed into action. Jason hooked up the trailer while Tawnee grabbed a bucket of grain, lead rope and halter from the tack room. By 10:47 the rig was pulling out. A 12 minute response time for a Friday night seems pretty reasonable to us. The neighbors jumped in the truck to help find the horse again since they were the last ones that had seen it.

Driving along the road in the dark they suddenly saw the horse in the headlights.

Tawnee got out of the truck and the horse disappeared into the darkness... For the rest of the story ~ Click Here.

This Week's Currents Needs

March Auction Rescue Fund With the last funds raised for saving horses from auctions we were able to save 22 equines and did this with $5,000.00 in donations!  Since March of 2008 when we started fundraising to save horses directly from livestock auctions in particular, we have saved 241 horses from auctions. Our donation goal this month is $5000.00 for the rescue and care of the auction horses.

If you feel impressed to help save the unlucky horses that end up at auction yards - Click Here for more information.

This Week's Adoptions

These are the horses that have been adopted since the last E-news was sent out.  As always, all homes were prescreened, references were checked out, and to the best of our ability each horse was placed in its forever, loving home.  The names, in order from top left, are: Bubba, Red Eye, Dib, Gingles, Girandole, Pluto, Jolly, Montana, Peanut, Rose, and Rainbow Cruiser.  We would like to thank everyone that opened their hearts and homes to these wonderful horses.

So far this year we have saved 72 equines!

Help us save more horses from abuse, slaughter and starvation.
