Many thanks to the dozens of people who helped save the lives of 4
beautiful young mares, a little 6 day old colt, and the 3 unborn foals.
Also, thanks to Minnie H. for driving her truck and trailer over and helping us
bring the mares and foal back. Unfortunately, our trailer only holds 3,
and we did not want to have to endure the agony of deciding which mare dies and
which mares live. It was nice to have another truck and trailer along for
the 9 hour drive. Below is a picture of the mares that was taken
once they were safely at our ranch, enjoying a nice quiet supper. One of
the mares looks like she will be birthing in a day or two, and the others will
not be far behind.
The tags in the mares manes are the feedlot ID
tags.
The mares are Quarter Horses, the 2 blacks and the
mommy are 3 years old and the other sorrel is a 2 year old (poor girl she's a
baby having a baby). The foal is a colt who's sire may have been a Paint, he has
4 very high stockings.
They are not tame but are not wild, they have been
around people off and on their whole lives and just need a little gentling and
lots of love.
The mares were from a Quarter Horse ranch that had
too many horses, so they weeded out their herd and took the extras directly to
the feedlot for slaughter in Canada. Thankfully we were informed about them and
were able to save them thanks to every dollar that was donated! We were able to
raise, thanks to you, $3,156.50 of the $4000.00 needed to save these
horses! All donation for these horses is greatly appreciated.
