We have been notified about some very pregnant mares in Nevada
that are waiting to go to slaughter. 4 very pregnant mares (one has since given
birth) are being held until Friday to give them a chance to birth before being
forced into the trucks bound for slaughter in Canada. If they give birth,
the foals are separated and put in a holding pen without milk or care to die.
Unfortunately Nevada, as a state, considers this decent treatment of horses, but
we all know better. We have the opportunity to purchase these
mares for $500 a piece. We are pleading for the funds to be donated to
save these horses and give the babies a chance at life. This is right on
the front lines of saving horses from certain death. We are stepping out
in faith that the funds will be raised, and are borrowing the funds to make a
rescue run early tomorrow morning. Several volunteers are taking off work
to make the 9 hour trip. With the gas, brand inspection, vet bills,
special supplements, etc, we are expecting the cost to be around $4000.00 for
these 8 horses (hopefully each mare gives birth successfully.)
The mares are 2 blacks and 2 sorrels and 1 sorrel or dun foal.
Quite possibly there will be some more foals by tomorrow morning!
Please donate what you can to help save these horses from the
slaughter house and save the foals from dying alone in a pen. We need your
help. Other horse rescues were contacted, but each declined to intercede
on the horses behalf.
