Shawnee, Missy, Cricket, Teasin and Splash Are Now Available For Adoption
More info on these equines can be found on our website www.SaveTheHorse.com

Shawnee is a beautiful underweight bay Morgan, Mare, 22 years, 14 hands, NER # 214.  Shawnee is a very sweet horse that loves to be played with. She will make a great beginners horse, she loves to please and is easy to work with. Right now she is very tender footed, due to a very bad, short, choppy hoof trim. Until her hooves grow out, she will be tender. She is very well trained to ride, but due to her tender hooves she can't be ridden until they grow back out.
Shawnee's previous owner died in a motorcycle accident, so the relatives donated her to us.
Adoption Fee: $350
Missy is a very quiet 21 yr old, black, TB mare,15.3 hands NER # 216. Missy has a tattoo but it is unreadable. She is a level II dressage horse that has only been ridden english. She free longes by voice command and is very affectionate with us. We were told by her former owner that she throws the occasional buck and has a typical TB attitude at times, but we have noted no bad behavior or any signs of problems. She has been very well taken care of, her hooves are in good condition and her teeth were floated last year.

Adoption Fee: $
350
Cricket is a 16 year old, liver chestnut, Quarter Horse, 14 hand, gelding, NER # 222.  Cricket is a very sweet guy that loves to be groomed and rubbed on and that's his favorite pastime. He is well trained for ranch work.  He was used as a Jr. rodeo horse, mainly for roping. After that he was used as a ranch horse for an elderly lady. Shortly after she got him, he became stiff in his back leg. She had the vet out numerous times, and he was not able to diagnose the problem. Cricket can only be used as a lightly ridden child's horse or pasture pal. He is very sweet and is waiting for his new home.
Adoption Fee:
$100
Im Not Teasin "Teasin" is a AQHA # X0509631, 13 years old, 15.1 hand, gelding, NER # 217. Teasin is a very sweet guy, very well trained, very easy going and is a great beginners horse. Teasin will do whatever you ask of him. He is a wonderful horse that loves to please and is very patient with beginners. He saddles, bridles, ties, halters, easy to catch, loads, trailers and is very easy to work with.
When Teasin was rescued, he had a skin infection. Teasin has been to the vet for his skin infection and the vet informed us that we had nothing to worry about. Teasin is now healing very well and is now ready to be adopted into a home.
Adoption Fee: $1200
Splash is 7 years old, 14.2 hands, gray, Quarter Pony, gelding, NER # 193. He has been through so much in his short life, it is just terrible. No horse should have gone through what he has gone through. Click Here for Splash's Story. Splash has been with us since January 2006 in our rehabilitation program and we have been working with him to help him recover from his terrible life. NER's trainer worked with him for about 30 days and then we took him to another trainer for another 50 days. He did pretty good in training, but he has flashbacks to his previous terrible treatment, and he bolts with nothing stopping him. In the 80 days of training Splash has gone through, both expert trainers didn't feel comfortable riding him. They worked with him on his terror of ropes and tried to get him up to a point were he could be ridden, but every time he would freak out. When he has a flashback, he bolts, just freaks out and nothing will/can stop him. Splash only has flashbacks when he is doing something that he is uncomfortable with. Splash loves to come up to the gate to see you, loves being groomed, and hanging out with other equines and people.
We are looking for a very special home that will let Splash just be a horse, were he can be groomed, loved on, and live a life of happiness without fear of mistreatment. Someday Splash may be able to be trained to ride, but at this point he needs lots of TLC.
We have hundreds of dollars in Splash's training, feed, etc. but he has no adoption fee, he just needs a loving, kind person to love him for who he is for life. If the person is ever no longer able to keep him he must be given back to our rescue.

We Need Your Help With Our New Identification Program!

As many of you have read in our last edition of E-News we have had a situation where one of our horses ended up back at auction.  We were lucky enough to be there to buy her back; unfortunately there is no way we can guarantee that it will not happen again.  We strive to do as much as we can, but with our number of equines rising, we cannot necessarily remember them all (how many bay mares between 14.1 and 15.1 have we had???)   Tawnee remembered her from 2 years ago and with over 110 horses since Angel, that is pretty amazing.  This incident has forced us to look into other measures to help safeguard our equines.  We have researched and at our board meeting on 6/16 we voted unanimously to put two identification methods into place as soon as possible - micro chipping and freeze branding.
Our  program will be hopefully in place by early July.  We have researched several companies and after talking with Avid Equine, we have decided to use their services.  The link for their website that will show you the products we will be using and answer any questions or concerns that you might have is http://avidequineid.com/index.htm.  It is a tandem company with Horse Trac USA.  They have been in operation for 20 years and we were impressed with their ideas for us and their products.  They recommended that we purchase the cheaper model of scanner, so that we can in time hopefully purchase a second one for our other rescue vehicle.  The scanner costs $299.00.  We have decided to go with the preloaded sterile syringes and they will cost $9.75 each.  We also have to purchase the lifetime registration to go with the chips and they are willing to reduce the price of the registration to $7.00 per equine since we are a non profit. We will be getting 25 preloaded sterile syringes and lifetime registration and the scanner a total of $699.00 - we need your help!
Our freeze branding program will take a little longer to put into place.  We are researching and deciding on a brand and the placement of the brand area.  We are moving a little more slowly on this option, we want to make sure of all aspects before we put it into place.
We hope that you, our supporters, will see the need and realize that we cannot do this without your help.  We are asking that you look at our program, look at the number of equines that are in our program, and realize we cannot be expected to remember all the equine that are served by NER.  We are trying to adapt to change as our organization grows, and we will continue to do everything possible to help raise the money.   If you have fundraising ideas please contact
Shari@savethehorse.com

Thanks for your support and again please consider opening your home to one of our equines!
