Hello
NorCal Equine Rescue Friends:
We were able to save three horses at an auction we went
to on 12-11-05. It was a long, cold and tiring day, but
our hearts were thrilled to have been able to save these
wonderful horses. We just wish we could have saved
all the other horses that were at the auction too. There
was about 100 horses there with an unknown future, how
sad... |

Willow, Isabella and Zoro
Arrived At NER |
|
 |
Willow
is 6 year old, 15 hand, dark day, Morgan, mare, NER #
189. She is sound, trailers, ties and has a nice
personality. Not much is known about her past but we
have high hopes for her. We feel that she has been
rushed through saddle training, resulting in her being
very unsure and scared about any tack. She loves
attention and being groomed, but needs work on picking
up her hoofs, She has had a very traumatic start in life
and needs someone to work with her on gaining confidence
with tack and to prove that all humans are not going to
use brute strength to get her saddled. She needs to go
to a person that will take things slowly and gently, and
that is experienced with horses that have been abused.
Adoption Fee: $600 |
|
 |
Isabella
is a 12 year old, 16 hand, gray, Dutch
Warmblood cross, NER # 190. She is a very fancy and
well trained mare. Not much is known about her past
but we feel that she has been used for jumping,
dressage and has show experience. She trailers,
ties, and saddles great. We rode her western and
bareback and she did very well, but she is probably
been ridden English. She is a very calm, well
mannered horse with lots of potential for any rider
that wants to do jumping or dressage. She is sound,
no known vices. This is a very special mare that
would be a great addition to any family.
Adoption Fee: $1000 |

Sponsor Me! |
Zoro
is black, 17.2 hand, 16 year old, Friesian
-Thoroughbred cross, gelding, NER # 191. He is a very
gentle and has had lots of experience with child riders.
We believe that he has stringhalt in his right hind leg
that will require surgery and is very underweight and
will require long rehabilitation with us. He will need a
sponsor as he will be with us long term and will not be
available for adoption until he is recovered. Zoro
absolutely had the potential to be bought by killer
buyers, his future was very grim indeed because of his
medical needs.
Zoro is in desperate need of $25 a month sponsors to help cover his feed
and medical bills. Please consider becoming a sponsor to
help this horse have a new life. You can help, watch
Zoro, through e-mail updates, that you'll recovery, if
you sponsor him. Thank You! |

The Equine's Struggle To Live |
Equine Of The Month |
Horses are struggling
to live in this world, every day thousands of horses
are slaughtered. Why are horses slaughtered?
Is only because people in foreign lands eat their
meat as a delicacy? No, horses are not only
being slaughtered for their meat, but also for their
hides for use in America. Thousands of Americans are
supporting horse slaughter by using horsehide
products, there hundreds of horsehide products,
jackets, shoes, rugs, tails and many more. In this
issue will be talking about motorcycle horsehide
jackets.
Motorcycle Horsehide Jackets: Thousands of
motorcycle horsehide jackets are sold in America,
many of these motorcycle horsehide jackets sell for
thousands of dollars. Some companies selling these
jackets note that "Horses
are not slaughtered only for their leather.
Horsehide leather is a by-product of the livestock
industry. Several countries consume equines, much
like Americans consume beef, buffalo, etc." They
don't seem care that some of these horses were pets,
riding horses, show horses and champions. If
horse slaughter stopped for human assumption, would the slaughter plants closed down? If
there's a huge demand for horsehides, would the
slaughterhouses just stop shipping the meat over sea
for human consumption and then just kill horses for
their hides and pet food? Who's to say?

Staff Member Of
The Month |
Karen Robinette has
been a wonderful asset to NER. She first came across NER
about 3 years ago when
she
fell in love and adopted “Clyde” a 28 yr old rescue
horse. She has become an integral part of our
organization, as a board member and in many different
roles. She fosters, trailers, adopts, donates time and
supplies to assist in any way necessary. She is married
and a mother of 4 children ranging in ages 7 months to
12 years. She enjoys pleasure riding, driving carts,
ballroom dancing, and doing any horse activities. She
currently has 8 horses, some rescue and some fosters,
and her draft and Halflinger. Her favorite horse is a
draft, she loves their gentle nature and their love
for
people. Her advice to any potential horse owner
is “Think, before you leap into buying any horse, make
sure the horse matches you, I have seen people impulse
buy, and that results in dangerous situations for you
and the horse both.” Her goal for the future is to
maintain her relationship with NER helping in any
capacity, providing a satellite ranch for all horses in
need. She welcomes any person to her home to visit NER
horses, to see the needs and the condition of the
wonderful horses that are lucky enough to find their way
to NER. The staff and supporters thanks Karen for all
her hard work and dedication to our organization.
Without staff such as Karen, we wouldn’t be able to
accomplish all that we do.

Our Goal
for 2005: Last year, we set our
goal for 2005 of saving 50 equines, it seemed
impossible. In 2004 we saved 34 equines. Some of NER
staff thought it impossible, may be 40, if we were
lucky. But Zoro is
the 50th equine through our rescue this year and
we could not have picked a more special horse to represents our 50th equine
for this year, his future was very grim and he is a
gentle giant. Wow 50 saved! What a amazing an
accomplishment!
We would like to thank all of you for your donations,
support, encouragement, and adoptions that made this
possible. Where would these 50 equines be if we did not
save them? |
Equine Sponsorship: We have talked
and decided that we will no longer be accepting
sponsorships for horses on an individual basis
unless the horse is in rehabilitation and
recovery and not available. It will save the
frustration of someone sponsoring a horse and
then, sometimes hours or days later, the horse
is adopted. If
someone would like to place a hold on a equine
that is available for adoption the adopter may
put a $50 hold that gives the adopter 5 business
days to adopt the equine or give them time for
their application to be processed and for them
to come meet the horse. If the five business
days are up and the potential adopter needs more
time for the adoption the extra hole to be $20
per day. The $50 hold will be non refundable so
that we have the assurance that someone is
serious about adopting. If the horse is adopted
the $50 hold will be deducted from the adoption
fee.
The new equine sponsorships will now be only for
equines that are in rehabilitation and recovery
and is $25 a month per sponsor.
E-mails with updates and pictures of the equine
that you sponsor will be sent out once a month
or more. You can be a part of the equine's
rehabilitation, recovery and helping it start a
new life by sponsoring.
This new sponsorship well enable
multiple people can sponsor an equine, there
will no deduction will be taken off the adoption
fee for sponsoring an equine however, and will
not put you first in line for the equine when it
becomes available for adoption. |
