Hello
NorCal Equine Rescue Supporters and Friends:
We have updated our mailing list emails to this new format, "NER E-News." We
will be sending out this E-news at least once a month or
whenever we rescue equines, equines become available for
adoption, equines are donated, special needs occur, or
if there is outstanding news. It will contain the
same content as our old format, but in the E-News there will be more news about
NER, equine of the month, equine adopted in the last
month, rescue stories, and much more! Your
feedback is vital for us to provide you with cutting
edge equine rescue news. |

Approximately 25 Years old.
16 Hands. |
Yesterday NER staff rescued Hugo. Hugo is an older
Thoroughbred gelding that was unwanted by his previous
owner, who after owning him for
approximately
3 months, they did not want him anymore. He has had shoes on
for an unknown time and is in need of farrier work.
He also has an eye infection in his right eye that needed
medical attention and he is a little under weight.
Hugo seems very sweet and loving. We are unsure if he is rideable,
but when is hooves are in good condition again we see
how he does.
Adoption Fee: $100.00 |

The On Goings Of Last Month |
Equine Of The Month |
We
were able to adopt seven equines into loving homes in last month. The equines that were
adopted are: Gracie, Harold, Quiggley, Phoenix Dreamer, Sheika Raji, Lefty
and Buster.
We are very happy to report that Quiggley and Phoenix Dreamer were
adopted together, as were Lefty and Buster.
It is a wonderful thing when best friends are
adopted together.
The landlord of the main facilities we have been using
built a barn this summer and is letting us use one side
of it, now we have a small tack room, one stall, and
some hay storage.
We looked at many different properties last month,
trying to find our soon to be ranch. The Tazzy Fund who
will be buying the ranch needs more $5.00 month sponsors
so they can make the land payments. One of the biggest
problems is they need the money for the down payment. If
you are interested helping us get better facilities so
we can save more horses, please visit:
Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund.
Just say it is for the horses or ask us how you can
help. |

Legacy is a 19 year old, 16 hand, AQHA mare. She
has received extensive training and is a fun

Previous Rescue Story |
The
Equine's World |
Gypsy Rose is a registered Arabian mare. Gypsy Rose
was very underweight and had been starved for
seven months. She had been leased to some people . They lived in a
beautiful neighborhood, had a nice home, flower gardens and large
swimming pool. There was also a nice pen and shelter for Gypsy Rose to
live in, so from the looks of things they would be able to care for her
very well. But within 7 months, they took Gypsy Rose from a healthy
horse to a gaunt emaciated one. When Gypsy Rose's owner discover the
horrible condition that her beloved horse, she donated
Gypsy Rose to us so we could help her recover and find her a new home. When NER staff
arrived to pick up Gypsy Rose they saw a skeleton of a horse that
looked like bones with a dirty hide covering them. They looked in the
barn to see what she had been fed and to their horror they could not
find feed or any sign of any horse feed anywhere! Gypsy Rose was adopted into a very loving home where she lived out her
days in happiness. |
"Horses
have served humans throughout history, carrying us on
their backs, tilling our fields, drawing wagons and
carriages, enriching our lives as friends and
companions. In the United States, horses have never been
raised for human consumption, yet American horses are
being killed so their meat can satisfy the palates of
overseas diners in countries such as Italy, France,
Belgium and Japan. Show horses, racehorses, foals born
as a “byproduct” of the Premarin© industry (a female
hormone replacement drug), wild horses and family horses
all fall prey to this detestable foreign industry.
"Currently, three foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States are
killing horses for human consumption. They are Beltex
Corporation in Ft. Worth, Texas; Dallas Crown in
Kaufman, Texas and Cavel International in DeKalb,
Illinois. According to the US Department of Agriculture,
65,976 horses were
slaughtered in 2004, up from 50,564 killed the previous
year. In addition to the horses killed in the three
US-based plants, thousands more are transported under
deplorable conditions across our borders into Canada and
Mexico to be slaughtered.
The transportation, handling and
slaughter process are rife with cruelty. Failure to
properly stun animals at the slaughter plant results in
horses being shackled and dismembered while still
conscious. Slaughter is not humane euthanasia."
