Current Rescue |
With
the last funds raised for saving horses from auctions we
were able to save 23 horses and did this with just over
$6,000.00 in donations. Since March of this year, when
we started fundraising to save horses directly from
livestock auctions in particular, we have saved 58
horses from auction. The July 13th auction is coming up
and we currently have raised $1,015.00. Our goal this
month is $5,000.00 for the rescue and care of the
livestock auction horses.
All Road Communications
will
match all donations towards this
rescue up to $5000, for a total of $10,000 towards this
auction rescue and care for the horses! Each dollar
that you donate will be doubled. Your donation really
makes a difference now, please donate what you can.
Even $5 will turn into $10 just like that thanks to the
generosity of Chris and Janet at
All Road
Communications.
The matches will be added at the end of the fundraising.
This is a great opportunity for the horses at the next
auction, help us help the horses by donating what you
can, be the horse's hero!

Help if you can, it will
be greatly appreciated.

Looking For Some Volunteers |
We are
looking for some dependable volunteers. You do not need
to live near the rescue for this volunteer work.
Residing anywhere in the United States is fine. We have
a couple specific duties that we are looking for
volunteers to fill.
-
Adoption Applications.
You would need to call 4 references, it may not
sound like much but it can be very time consuming.
Right now it is taking about a week to process an
application and we would like to shorten that time
down to 2 or 3 days. That's why we need someone with
some extra time on their hands, preferably retired
or stay at home. Sometimes there is only one or two
applications at a time to do and sometimes it can be
overwhelming. Kristy has been doing the applications
and has been doing a great job, but at this time the
adoption applications are a little to much for her
so we are moving her to adoption follow ups.
- My
Pony Girl Club of America - Pony Moms Needed.
We are looking for women who would like to get
involved with helping young girls who love horses.
This club would kind of be like the girl scouts in a
way. The Pony Girls (girls between the ages of 5 and
15 who join the Pony Girl Club) would learn about
horses, network with friends, have a safe haven
online to meet new friends, share stories and
pictures, learn about horse care, etc.

This club is in the first steps of being formed,
and we are looking for creative leaders to help form
club rules, by-laws, fundraising ideas, etc. This
club is not just for girls in our area but all over
the United State. Pony Mom's would be responsible
for the local organization of Pony Girl Club
branches. So think of how you could be a Pony Mom,
do this right in your hometown with your little herd
of Pony Girls. We have a website (www.MyPonyGirlClub.com)
we are developing where Pony Girls and Pony Mom's
can visit, post on the forum, post their horses to
be rated, learn about the club, etc. Pony Mom's can
share ideas with other Pony Moms, get recipes for
Pony Girl Cookies, ideas for outings to take the
little pony herd out on, etc. Pony Girl Club is a
branch of NorCal Equine Rescue, and Pony Girl Club
fundraisers will help save horses in need! If you
have any ideas that are even remotely great on how
you think the club should operate to have the most
appeal to girls between the ages of 5 and 15, please
let us know! We are also looking for people who can
help us design literature and other club gear.
We
would be must grateful for your thoughts and ideas for
My Pony Girl Club. The Adoption Applications is a one
person job so please if you are interested in
volunteering for this, email us (info@savethehorse.com)
why you think you would be best qualified for helping us
out in this area of our rescue and please remember that
we need someone who is very dependable and does things
in a timely, organized manner. |

Wow, a lot of stuff has happened this month
everything from the biggest auction rescue yet,
fire evacuations, people
nominating Tawnee for Animal Planet Hero of the
Year, high speed internet is at the rescue and
so much more. Please visit our blog for a
detailed account of the months happenings!
June 8th: There were about 60 horses at the
auction, and
NorCal history was made: 23 horses we re
saved thanks to the generosity of our
supporters, and the killer buyers only went home
with 6 horses! It's sad that those 6 had to go
with them, but it sure is better than most
months. The
KB's faces were full of bewilderment as
we kept outbidding and outbidding them on
horses. We would see a horse come in, and if
they started bidding we would bid and they would
immediately turn around and glare at us. They
probably wondered when we were going to run out
of money and room, but, we had plenty of funds,
room and hay to rescue a record number of
horses. Many of the killer buyers went home with
empty trailers. Their glares continued long
after the auction out into the parking lot.
Now for an amazing rescue story! A white mare
that we rescued at the auction has an amazing
story
with us. We first came in contact with her in
September of 2004 when Sheriff dispatch called
us up on a Saturday morning to get some loose
horses that were wandering around the woods near
Hwy 70 in Quincy. In a flash we were out and on
the road, in the end we had to 4 wheel drive
down crazy abandoned logging trails with our
horse trailer. In the end we managed to track
down and rescue the 3 horses that were loose
before they were hit on Hwy 70. This mare was
one of them.
All three were returned to their owner and we
hoped we wouldn't have to
rescue them again. We were wrong. This
mare we next saw almost a year later at
Roseville Livestock Auction. Her owner
was selling her and
Tawnee was determined to rescue her that
time.
Unfortunate she bid up much higher than
our limited budget would allow, but we knew at
least she was not going for meat.
It has been about 2 years later, and while
Tawnee was at the auction watching horses
be unloaded, she saw this mare get unloaded and
immediately
recognized her.
Tawnee was glued to her and wanted to
ensure that she would make it into the rescue
this time. She purchased her before
she
was sent through the auction. This really
made
Tawnee's day! This
mare who we named Snow back in 2004 is
now named Lily, so we'll keep it Lily
since that is the name she knows. Lily (aka
Snow) was the 29th
horse that came in to our rescue, and now she is
back at NER # 631! Her lost and found
NER # was 131. It is so amazing to have a
horse that touched our lives at the beginning of
our organization come back into our
organization after so many years.
Tawnee has been reunited forever with
Lily.
Tawnee has chosen to adopt Lily as she is
such a sweet horse, she has come into our lives
3 times over the last 4 years, and each time she
left a special place in
Tawnee's heart, so this time she is
staying.
June 10th: There was a raging fire just a few
miles from us, in a mostly upwind direction. At
about
3:00 pm the fire was about 4 miles from us. The
word was we are going to be officially evacuated
that evening, so we started evacuating the
horses while we could, moving them to our 10
acre foster home in
Gridley.
We got 11 of the
horses moved out to the
Gridley pasture before we were told that
it was
OK to stop evacuating the fire was dieing
out and the wind had stopped. We felt so sorry
for the poor horses, it was 11 from the last
auction, and then they were shuffled back into
the trailer, they probably thought they were
heading back to the auction.
Starting in June people started telling us the
they had nominated Tawnee for
Animal Planet Hero of the
Year.
Tawnee is greatly honored by this so now there
is a page on our web site that is all about
Tawnee, her life and what she plans to do if she
is awarded Hero of the Year. Please check out
Tawnee's web page and
nominate her if you
are acquainted with her by
Clicking Here.
As of today we now have high speed internet!
This is going to much our lives so much easier!
At approximately 20 times faster than our
previous dial-up, it should make our job go
quite a bit quicker in the office. |

We have a lot of horses needing homes right now.
Please consider adopting one of our horses, give
them a chance at a new life, and we will have
room for another horse that is waiting to be
saved right now.
These horses need a home, someone to love them
and give them the life they deserve. Each one of
these horses has a special story, most would be
dead right now if we had not saved them. Please
give them a chance, give them a home.
