For the
November 9th auction. - With
the last funds raised for saving horses from auctions we
were able to save 22 horses and
did this with $5,423.00 in donations! Since March of this year, when
we started fundraising to save horses directly from
livestock auctions in particular, we have saved 163
horses from auctions. Our donation goal this
month is $5000.00 for the rescue and care of the auction horses. Horses
are being dumped at auctions in droves. At the last auction we are almost 100%
sure that there was not a single horse sold to a KB!!! Our
rescue is
extremely full and as winter approaches we have to think into the future
and make plans accordingly. It is becoming harder to place horses into great
homes, but horses still need to be
saved from the brutality of slaughter. We currently have about 50 horses in the
rescue, horses that have to be fed and cared for every day. We are
planning on having no more than 40 horses at the rescue during the winter. This
means two things: we can start turning a blind eye to the poor horses dumped so
thoughtlessly at the auction,
pretend they
never needed our help and just ignore the problem or we can do
what we believe is right. We can save them from the cruel fate of slaughter,
give them the best possible chance of finding a forever home, and if no home is
found allow them to pass on knowing love, compassion and peace. As we rescue
20-30 horses monthly from auctions, the euthanasia rate may vary greatly this
winter depending entirely on placement ability. The horses at the auction need
your help. In the wintertime, very few people are wanting to buy a horse, except
for those that only see dollars on hooves, making a horses chance of finding a
kind home virtually nil at
the auction.
It is very
important the killer buyers leave with empty horse trailers. The killer buyers are driving long distances to the
auctions and then thanks to your support, they are forced to drive home with
empty trailers. With the high price of fuel we know that it is hurting them.
Please help us save more horses from the fate of the killer buyers!
Please send
us a name for a horse when making your donation, many of the horses will need
names.
Help if you can, it will
be greatly appreciated.

Low Cost Clinics
We have
launched
two clinics,
.
First let's talk about the
Clinic.
Euthanasiameans "good death" peaceful and calm. Sadly to say
there are hundreds of horses suffering a horrible death in slaughter houses
every day. Every 5 minutes an American horse is slaughtered. In
Northern California around 400 horses are shipped out to slaughter every month.
The economy is literally killing horses in droves. People are having a very hard
time feeding their horses with the
high price of hay and feed. We get calls almost on a daily basis, "I can't
afford to care for my horse, what do I do?" We try our best to help out,
but with these hard times it is impossible to take in every horse we get a call
about. What happens to those horses? Neglect?Abandonment?
Abuse?
Starvation? Slaughter?
At the clinic people can bring their horses to our vet office and have
the horses
humanely euthanized and
disposed for
only $25.00.
With your help we would be covering all
the additional cost of
Euthanasia. The only way we can make this happen is if you donate to help save
horses from a brutal
death in a slaughter house. Horses will be screened for adoptability and if we
have the room they will be able to come into our rescue for a great
chance at finding a home.
Many magazines will have articles about our Euthanasia Clinic in
the coming months. Here are a few links to different blogs and
other online articles that talk about it.

Secondly the Low Cost Gelding Program. On average, it costs between $250 and $550 to geld a horse.
Realistically that is the sole reason so many horses remain stallions,
many people simply cannot afford the extra money needed for the surgery.
People put off gelding their little colt as they try to save the funds,
the colt becomes a little stallion, goes through the fence and breeds
their mares, often their own mother. We believe that people would
be more apt to geld their colts and even older stallions if there was a
low cost program available to assist with the surgery costs.
We have arranged to have the Low Cost Gelding Program available
between Nov through February, the maximum number of horses that can be
gelded is simply dependant on the funds donated. Our veterinarian
has reduced her rates for this program, and people will be able to have
their stallion gelded for $25 - $125 depending on the age and
temperament. We will be covering the rest of the cost, $125.
This is a wonderful opportunity to snip the problem of excessive
breeding at the source. We are hoping to raise enough funds to
have 100 stallions gelded. If you can, please help reduce
excessive breeding and help fund the Low Cost Gelding Program.

Horses
Needing Homes
We rescue a lot of
horses to save them from the brutality of the slaughter
industry. With the hard economical times it is becoming
harder and harder to place horses that are older, have lameness,
untrained to ride, etc. into homes. Please consider
adopting one of these precious horses into your family, if you
can not adopt a horse you can still help spread the word. Help
us get these horses into loving, forever homes.
