The Last Act of Kindness

Recently a small horse rescue (we will not be releasing their identity in this E-news as we do not wish them harm in any way nor do we wish to encourage their financial support to languish) launched a vicious public attack against us, our supporters, and indirectly encouraged horses to be sent to slaughter.  They vigorously begged the public to cease financially supporting our rescue.
They accused of us having a policy wherein we euthanize any horse that has been in our program for 60 days regardless of its health
or condition. This is an absolute fabrication meant to cast doubt and confusion in peoples minds, and as they stated "People need to know so they will stop donating to them."  They had absolutely no knowledge of how our Last Act of Kindness program works or the great deal of good that it does.
In the entire time our organization has been in existence, only 29 horses have passed away while in our rescue program. 23 have been humanely euthanized and 6 passed away of natural causes. Less than 4% of equines that come into our rescue are euthanized, and the majority are in great pain and have no chance of recovery.  We have never euthanized a healthy, sound, non-dangerous equine.
Since 2003 we have rescued 641 equines. Another accusation is that the information regarding the LAK program has been kept secret and has just become public knowledge thanks to a secret spy revealing it. This is preposterous as the LAK program has been detailed on our front page of our website since April when it started and we sent out an E-news to our E-news list.

For anyone that does not understand the Last Act of Kindness program, it was inspired by the sight of unwanted, unadoptable horses being loaded into killer trucks for the long ride to Mexico or Canada.
Click here for more information. Purchasing them, giving them love and the best chance we can of finding them a home, and then humanely euthanized if no home can be found, is far better than walking away and leaving them to die a brutal death at the slaughter house.
With the economy experiencing difficulty and the price of hay skyrocketing, horses are being disposed of in record numbers.  Pro-slaughter advocates have a renewed argument: there are thousands of unwanted horses.  They say slaughter houses must be re-opened!  But, we say "No!"  Rescues must band together, look at the big picture, and we must do what is right.  It is far better for a horse to be humanely euthanized than be sent through the absolute torture and brutality of slaughter.

Put yourself for a moment in the horses hooves: you are at an auction.  The killer buyer is there with greed and dollar signs in his eyes as he watches you trot around the ring.  You know that if he wins the bid you will be crammed in a trailer with as many other of your friends as he can buy, sent to a  feedlot, where you likely will get sick or injured, for a few days and then crammed on a double decker truck bound for Mexico where you are hung up and bled to death.  The other person you see raising their hand represents NorCal Equine Rescue, and you know that if they win the bid, you will have love, care, a great chance at finding your forever home (over 95% chance) and if not, you will be humanely euthanized with love, concern and human companionship.  What would you choose?  Vote Below.

 Some Current Needs!

Below you will be able to see what some of our current pressings needs are.  Please help however you can, even a $5 donation helps out a lot! The first current need is a hay barn to replace our 10'x20' carport hay barn before winter.  The other current need is the next auction rescue on Sept 14th.  Help us save the horses from the killer buyers!  For more information, please keep reading.

Hay Barn Raising!

We are hav'n a good old hay barn rais'n! If you can't lend a helping hammer and hand, maybe a dollar? Winter is coming soon and we really need a big dry place for all the hay that the many rescued horses so badly need.  We have been researching hay barns for some time now.
   EQ-wine Covers has a really nice 48' X 48' hay barn for
$8,994.00 - unless the prices go up. We really need this hay barn, we have been buying hay in large amounts, the hay is in the open air and with no rain in the summer time it has been working great, but we have a big problem.  Our current hay barn is a 10'x20' portable carport that can hold about 90 bales at a time.
Hay is one of the must important things to the horses and we really need a big hay barn so if you can help us out please do so.  It would be great to be able to fill the barn while the hay is cheaper than wintertime.
We must get this barn in before winter, we need to have the funds in by Sep 30th. Please do what you can to help get the barn raised before the winter rains hit!  Click Here for more info.

Our Next Auction Rescue - September 14th.

  For the
September 14th auction. - With the last funds raised for saving horses from auctions we were able to save 16 horses and did this with $5,000.00 in donations!  Since March of this year, when we started fundraising to save horses directly from livestock auctions in particular, we have saved 123 horses from auctions. Our goal this month is $5,000.00 for the rescue and care of the auction horses.  It is very important the Killer Buyers leave with empty horse trailers. The Killer Buyers are driving long distances to the auctions and then thanks to your support, they are forced to drive home with empty trailers. With the high price of fuel we know that it is hurting them. Please help us save more horses from the fate of the Killer Buyers!
All Road Communications will match all donations towards this rescue up to $2,500, for a total of $5,000 towards this auction rescue and care for the horses!  Each dollar that you donate will be doubled.  Even $5 will turn into $10 just like that thanks to the generosity of Chris and Janet at All Road Communications.  The matches will be added at the end of the fundraising. Click Here for more info.
Please send us a name for a horse when making your donation, many of the horses will need names.
