Jason & Tawnee Preisner - Founders

Tawnee:  Tawnee was born in 1984 in California. Her parents were raising Arabian horses, so Tawnee grew up on the back of a horse. Tawnee was riding solo by the age of 2.
Tawnee got her first pony for her 5th birthday, a 5 year old Shetland gelding who needed a lot of training. Tawnee's mother showed her how to train him and soon he was a good little pony.  Tawnee got her first horse when she 10 years old, a 4 year old wild Mustang from the BLM, that she trained to ride.
When Tawnee was 9 years old she met Jason, it was love at first sight for her and she decided that Jason was the guy for her.
When Tawnee was about 10 years old she received a letter in the mail from a horse rescue. The letter had pictures of horses that were thin and abused looking, and then it showed the same horses after they had recovered. Tawnee decide that when she grew up she was going to do something to help save horses and give them a second chance at life.
In her teens Tawnee traded her Mustang for two ponies and began raising ponies. Tawnee got another horse, a 3 year old Quarter cross mare named Cherokee. Tawnee finished Cherokee's training and together they enjoyed trail rides, parades and gymkhanas.

Jason:  Jason was born in 1979 in California. His parents worked for the National Forest Service in forestry conservation.  As they had to move quite often because their work, Jason was not able to personally have a horse. He did have the opportunity to ride his friend's horses from time to time.
Jason enjoyed country living in many western states and has lived almost everywhere there is a National Forest that needed care.  To this day Jason enjoys country living and wants to remain in the country his entire life.

Jason and Tawnee:  Jason and Tawnee were married on January 19th, 2003. That summer Tawnee learned that horses were still being slaughtered in the USA, Canada and Mexico.  This broke Tawnee's heart. She had heard that horse slaughter was illegal, which it is in California since 1998.  Still, many California horses ended up in slaughterhouses after being purchased at livestock auctions by transporters and people looking to make an easy buck.

Jason & Tawnee have a new little arrival born July 9, 2005 - Justin Preisner.  He is a great little guy that has to think that the world goes around horses, horses and more horses. Since he was born all he knows is that mom and dad are always with horses, going to auctions on and on it goes, but he loves it and has really good horse sense. He thinks that panels are monkey bars and are great fun!

Jason & Tawnee now have 3 new arrivals that came into their family in 2008.  They have adopted 3 kids that will grow up with horses and live the horse rescue life.
There are so many kids out their that need homes, just like there are horses out there that are needing homes too.  Jason & Tawnee say "We rescue and adopt horses, why wouldn't we adopt kids? Little Justin needed siblings and we wanted to have more kids, but not have-have kids you know. Once was enough! 36 hours of labor, 8 hours of pushing and then a c-section to have Justin.  Never again! If you enjoy the pregnancy and birthing process, more power to you, but if not, we are always telling people not to breed their horses, there are too many horses. Just adopt a foal if you wants a foal. Well we have decided to taken our own advice. And yes we now have 4 kids and we love it."
